Wired Meets Tired

In a world where nerdy videogamers and lucrative venture capitalists stand far across from eachother at every party...a new game concept has arrived that turns the tables! I just read about this crazy stuff in Wired Magazine, and after I try to explain this I recommend you browse through the website. Apparently, this game is similar to many others out there in that you develop your characters skills, personality, wealth, and experience by playing the game continuously. The trick about this though, is that the game has a "Real Cash Economy" meaning every virtual object within the game has a real value. As your character develops a career, the credits earned in the game can be withdrawn at any time at a conversion rate of 10:1 for US dollars. Of course, the opposite is true also; One can deposit real money into the game in order to buy more virtual "stuff" or even rent a virtual apartment, buy a virtual condo, etc. Anyway...the big kicker in all this is that some eccentric guy just invested $100,000 of real money into this "virtual economy" and has built his own nightclub in the virtual world of this game. He charges cover, sells out parts of the club...and apparently he's made 15k of real money somehow. He says that in the long run this could be a profitable strategy to harness these new "Massively Multiplayer Online RPGs". I know most of you aren't really gamers, but this creeps into pretty interesting implications, as the virtual world is becoming bigger and more familiar to all of us!

My Crazy Brother!!

This is a project done by the firm my bro works for. Their M.O. is to mesh technology with design in all the buildings they help to create. This one is completely nuts....a building surrounded by perpetual manmade fog.

Segregation

Check out these maps of religion within the United States. Most of the legends are hard to read...but read the few sentences before the maps to figure out what they are. Funny how clear some of the divisions are..

Can we make forcefields???

One of the tier-one contractors says it just finished successful testing of their new 'Active Defense system' for military vehicles. Works kinda like a forcefield....it's just so hard to believe though.

Reap the Whirlwind

What a crazy week!! I know that nobody reads this stuff anymore...but I just wanted to say how happy I am to have my new place all unpacked. Thanks to Audrey for helping ...and thanks to everybody else who's already come to say hello! There's still lots more to be done, but for now I think I'm satisfied with a most productive weekend. BUT I did not go out at all....so at times like these I think about how much I really will miss downtown :( But not enough to dampen the moment. Next weekend I'm off to Solvang again to kick it with the 'rents. But when I'm back, I'll be completely stir-crazy; I'm already looking to pick out a club for my first trolley-to-downtown exodus.
Currently....I think I'll take a moment to enjoy one of these bad boys:

Perdomo Reserve Champagne

Nick Perdomo's mild-bodied masterpiece.

Aside from being an extremely unique blend, the Perdomo Reserve Champagne is a side-step from the Perdomo norm of producing rich, hearty smokes that deliver a truckload of strength and complexity. While the Champagne is indeed flavorful and complex, it offers a pleasant, mellow, mild-bodied smoking experience that's tame enough to be enjoyed anytime, while tasty enough to satisfy the hungriest of palates. Comprised of a Cuban-seed Nicaraguan blend of fine tobaccos, wrapped in a glistening, triple-fermented Connecticut shade wrapper, this addition to Perdomo's La Tradicion Reserve trifecta delivers a smooth creamy flavor with hints of sweetness - almost like honey - incredibly rich for such a mellow cigar. The packaging ain't too shabby, either. 25 of these beauties are individually wrapped in shimmering gold cellophane and nestled inside a gorgeous, high-gloss cedar box.

Signing out for this chilly sunday evening.
HERE COMES MONDAY.....
